Proverbs 11:22 “As a ring of Gold in a Swine’s Snout is a Beautiful Woman who Lacks Discretion” NASB
God created in us a soul, spirit, and body. The soul loves beauty. The Bible says in I Peter 3: 3-4 ” Do not let your adornment be merely external, braiding the hair, wearing gold jewelry. and putting on dresses but let it be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.” Many people have misquoted this verse to say God does not want us to wear adornments, fix up, or dress nicely. God created in us a desire to be beautiful. He created men to want beautiful women. The verse above says not “merely”. So in addition to fixing up the outside of your body, He wants us to work on the inside too. In 1975, a very old preacher, Dr. McBath said this “Ladies if your are not pretty when you are 16 then you can’t help it. But, it you are not pretty by 30, it is your own fault. Your character should have taken over by then and made you beautiful from the inside out” Today’s woman has a more difficult time being discreet in her adornment. Fashion has exposed more than many of us are comfortable with. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be thought of as a pig with a gold ring in her nose!
I love the fine feeling of gold on the skin. It is slick, shiny, rich, and makes me feel prettier than I would without it. If someone I love has given me the gold, then it is even better. Have you noticed when the relationship is gone, the sentimental value missing, then the gold is not as rich, shiny or desirable. God wants us to keep our inner beauty so he can see the gold in our character. We want to be a woman who is valued as fine gold.
