Proverbs 25:11 “Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances NASB
Have you noticed how much of scripture in the Holy Bible has a jewelry reference? In Revelation 21:18-21, almost all of the precious and semi-precious gemstones are listed. In our verse today your words are compared to apples of gold in a silver bowl. That tells me that our words are precious and need to be guarded as a treasure. The bible says that in the tongue we have the power of life and death in our words. Let your words be golden and bless the hearer.
There is an interesting trend in jewelry that happens during periods of austerity. When platinum is popular, white gold is the substitute for those who can’t afford the higher priced metal. Now white gold is more costly than ever before in history and silver is the new substitute. I have not seen diamond and precious stones set in silver before except in jewelry from the 1920’s and 30’s. Also, at that time many rings had white sapphire to replace the diamond. Some of these rings have detailed filigree mountings that were probably made by hand, A family that I know had one of these rings in the safety deposit box waiting for a child to need an engagement ring. It was quite a large clear center stone that they were sure was a diamond. When they took it in to the jeweler to be cleaned, much to their surprise, it was a white sapphire. Now the golden part of this story. The son and his fiance` were so thrilled to have grandmother’s ring that it didn’t matter. Can you imagine how those words blessed the parents.
Guard your words today as precious treasure from the Lord.
